This visa lets skilled workers, who are nominated by their employer, live and work in Australia permanently.

  • Must be nominated by an Australian employer whose business is actively and lawfully operating.
  • Your occupation must be on the relevant list of eligible skilled occupations.
  • Need to have at least 3 years relevant work experience in their occupation.
  • Must be licensed, registered or a member of a professional body if it is mandatory in the state or territory you intend to work in.
  • Have a positive skills assessment.
  • Under 45 years of age when you apply (exemption available).
  • Must have at least competent English. 
  • Meet the health and character requirement. 

  • No outstanding Government debt.

  • Sign the Australian values statement.

  • No previous visas cancelled or applications refused.

  • Have the required skills and qualifications needed to perform the tasks of the nominated occupation.
  • Your employer must have sponsored you to work full-time on your subclass 457 or subclass 482 visa for at least 3 of the 4 years prior to nominating you for the subclass 186 visa. 
  • Under 45 years of age when you apply (exemption available).
  • Must have at least competent English. 
  • Must currently be the primary visa holder of visa 457/visa 482/Bridging visa A, B or C (The bridging visa must be the one you were granted after your subclass 457 or TSS visa expired.)
  • Meet the health and character requirement. 

  • No outstanding Government debt.

  • Sign the Australian values statement.

  • No previous visas cancelled or applications refused.

*New change allows access to the Temporary Residence Transition stream of the ENS 186 visa from 1st July 2022 to 1st April 2023 for short-term stream TSS 482 visa holders who:

  • Spent a (cumulative) period of 12 months or more in Australia between 1 Feb 2020 and 14 Dec 2021.
  • Employed by a suitable employer in Australia at the time of application.
  • Must currently work, or will work, for your employer under a labour agreement.
  • Must be licensed, registered or a member of a professional body if it is mandatory in the state or territory you intend to work in.
  • Unless the labour agreement provides otherwise, you must be aged under 45 years when you apply.
  • If you are in Australia, you must hold a substantive 457 or TSS visa issued under a labour agreement.
  • Meet the health and character requirement. 

  • No outstanding Government debt.

  • Sign the Australian values statement.

  • No previous visas cancelled or applications refused.
